Carnaval Mazatlan 2026

Mazatlan Carnaval 2026 starts on February 12th and runs till the 17th. Hundreds of thousands of people will be celebrating. Luckily most of the celebrating takes place in the older section of the city. Quite a ways from where we are staying.

The theme this year is consists of three ideas first: "The Empowered Woman (The Seagull): Represented by a seagull. It symbolizes the empowered woman, emphasizing that “jewelry is not necessary for empowerment.”

2nd - "Hans in La Tambora: The heart and Essence of the Port"  The tambora drum is the central theme representing it as the sound of the heart that drives everything in the city. The choice is based on the fact that the tambora drum is Mazatlan's hallmark worldwide. The rhythm that marks daily life and historically, the music that energizes the port's workers.

3rd - "The Child Who Comes from the Sea (Curiosity) This character represents curiosity and the need to maintain the musical essence in the face of the invasion of other types of music.

This may or may not make sense as I post as many pictures of the Monigotes for this year. They are made from lacquered and painted paper mache.

We didn't do much yesterday except eat out. Due to it being Super Bowl Sunday. Gets kind of rowdy here. So thought it was a good time to post these. I think I've got them all.

These photos of the Monigotes are just beautiful. There is always a favorite and the chubby little tuba player may be mine for this year. Thank you so much for sharing these; they are awesomely made and displayed.

Nice job Carol! We'll be staying in our neck of the woods for carnival.

It seems like there aren't as many as there have been before.

Some of them are lit up at night, but haven't been able to get a decent picture. I miss having our own transportation.

So will we. I wish we were going home sooner. Have you seen the unfinished high rise on Malecon lit up with big heart on it. It seems like a lot of the unfinished high rises don't have any work going on in them.

We will be staying here on the Isla except for a medical appointment Thursday morning. I have a collection of the Monigotes to post.....just have not had an any free moments. Hint hint - some positive things happening for us back in Canada.....don't jinx it, just send some positive thoughts.
