Walk About

Took a walk about yesterday. I do need to get out and keep moving. Sitting here or in the car all day every day is taking its toll on my mind and body. So here are some pictures from my mile and quarter walk. Started out here in the RV park. Why did I take a picture of the big wall between us and the houses. Partly because I'd forgotten why the wall is so high. The ground in under the homes used to be level with the ground in the RV park. Remember the year of construction...The truck loads, truck loads and truck loads of dirt that were brought in. The ground the houses are built on now begins at the top of the cement part of the wall. I tried to reach the top of the cement - even on tip toes and stretching as much as I could I couldn't reach the seam between the cement and blocks.

Give a better idea of how much dirt was brought in all the way around the RV park. The cement is a retaining wall for all the dirt.
Some flower pots at the back of an RV site waiting for their owners to come back and put new flowers in them. Not this year, hopefully next year.
Up front of the park the leaf cutter ants are hard at work. Luckily none in the back where we are.
They have been busy the trail they follow is about two inches wide.
This group was using an Internet cable to make their trip easier.
One of the bougainvillea they are stripping leaves from.
Looking from the front to the back of the front section of the RV park.  So sad. Still only three of us in here.
One of the big old trees growing in the center divider.
Sorry - why did they make this building shades of blue. Ugly.
Another project that got started and never finished. Neither of the buildings in the picture belong to this arch. I took the picture through a fence.
Another part of same project.
Yes there are pay phones here. See them all over.
Sitting out front cooling off. Giving me the stink eye cause I wasn't feeding him.  Their eyes remind me of a bulls eye on a target. He is a chakalaka Last year there were three of them, this year five. Two look a little smaller so maybe youngsters.
Our trip for the day was to WalMart - remembered our bags. I sure miss the baggers at the grocery stores. I had a minor meltdown the other day after bagging the groceries. The checkers are quick and the groceries really pile up when I'm trying to bag them. I know stupid thing to get upset over, but guess it was the final straw. Good thing I don't have to do that for a living. And the cloth bags sure don't cooperate and stay open.
Then we went to pick up our laundry which was not quite ready. Come back in an hour. Went back and they were closed. TIM. This Is Mexico.
Cooked a good dinner last night. Chicken breast, garlic and herb noodles, eggplant and asparagus. YUM.

Dish TV is still acting up. Never know what channels we will be able to view.

I think the cold front has moved through so the weather will be a little warmer again. Still getting pretty cool at night though.

Our friend, Mark from Canada, arrived last night. He is in condo right across the street. But won't see him for a few days. Not after being on a plane with a bunch of other people. Have talked to him on phone though. He can call us with the condo's landline but when I call him the phone doesn't ring...

Typical and unusual sights on New Years Day

New Years Day we made a strange decision. We decided to go out to eat - but it was already 11:30. Needless to say the restaurant we went to was too full for us to even want to get a table. So we got back in the car and took a ride. We figured we would just turn around and go home when the traffic got bad. Much to our surprise there was NO traffic. Guess everybody was either on their way out of town or still in bed recuperating from New Years Eve.

A typical sight on the Malecon. Musicians waiting for someone to hire them.
A line up at a popular restaurant on the beach. Always a crowd there. And usually loud music.
Another newer high-rise, the new bike path and a vendor heading to work. Still no traffic.
Like the bright red house. This is a neat street, need to take a walk or drive down it.
The new parking garage right downtown. It got painted, it is three different colors, beige, white and pale green. Also nice windows put in on street level
The entrance, with plumas {barriers} and all.
The back side of it. At least it kind of blends in to the neighborhood. New tile sidewalks. the painting is still being done.
And big surprise - the street on the west side of the central market is finally done - until next time they tare it up.
Still no traffic. Don't think I've ever seen the central market without susses stopped in front of it. It looks like it is closed too.
A typical corner store.
Heading towards the Malecon. Look at the wires stretched across the street.
Some traffic beginning to show The new center divider. More and more high rises along here.
Lots and lots of cross country tour buses where ever there is room to park.
I just like the colors of this building, They paint it about every three years, different combinations of colors.
Lots of people out now. On our way home. Never did stop to eat.
Nice drive and a good start to a New Year. Enjoy every day and keep safe.

New Years Day

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERY ONE FROM US.
And happy 56th anniversary to us.

We heard a whole lot of these going off last night.

Had a nightmare so woke up at 4 a.m.  Managed to stay in bed till 4:30 then got up so I wouldn't disturb Bill. He was already awake and couldn't go back to sleep either so he was up before the sun too. We wished each other Happy New Year and Happy anniversary - 56 years! That's a lot of years. I was 27 with two kids and he was 29 way back then. Then we sat watching TV from home with our coffee cups in our hands trying to warm them up. Sun is up now and looks like it will be a nice day. {He is on the bed, trying to keep warm and "reading his book" now. 8 o'clock a.m.}

Looks like it will remain pretty cool for a few days. Our furnace has been on for the last couple of days. Cycling on and off. If it is below 80 Bill is uncomfortable. And I must admit it feels pretty cool to me too.

Yesterday I was going through our refrigerator trying to make some room when I came across a double package of crescent rolls that I had forgot I had brought from home. So thought why not fix them. It will feel good to have the oven on. So I unloaded all the stuff that is stored in the oven. Found the pilot light lighter. Got a little flashlight so I could see the pilot light. Had to get down on my knees to see it - not a good idea. Then pushed the oven knob in, tried to pull the trigger on the lighter. It wouldn't pull. OH, noticed an off and on switch on lighter. Worked better with it on. Got the flame but pilot didn't light. Kept trying. Called Bill - oven knob had to be held in while putting lighter to pilot light - also holding flash light. Needed two people. "How many old farts does it take...." Finally after much pushing, pulling and swearing the damn thing lit. Then I had to stand up. Oh yah, Good thing Bill was there to pull me up. I hate admitting that but it is a fact.

I think the rolls were a teeny bit past their use by date, [package kind of exploded] but managed to get some of them out and rolled up.

And even cooked. They tasted pretty good when they were warm, not so much after they cooled down. But the oven did help warm us up, especially me.  From now on we buy crescent rolls at bakery.
We went for a ride yesterday morning, before the crescent roll fiasco. Lots of people walking around, glad to see that about 80 percent were wearing masks. We went too late to stop anywhere to take drone pictures.

At least four out of every five cars were from somewhere else. Lots from Mexico City and Jalisco and especially from Durango and Chihuahua - where it was snowing. In fact the Durango Mazatlan toll road was closed due to snow. Hope it opens so they can get back home soon. It is easy to forget it is the middle of winter here.
I hope they didn't bring Covid with them, so far Mazatlan has done a pretty good job of controlling it.
We are having a problem with our Dish anywhere TV program. Keeps telling us our video isn't working, but only on some channels and only some times. Going to try redownloading the apps, hope that works. Can't find a non 800 number to call their tech support. And if I can reach them don't know what they will be able to do as the problem is probably with our receiver at home. We'll see...
Well managed to call them by changing 800 to 880. Come to find out it is a problem with THEIR app. Lots of people calling with problems. Eventually they will get it fixed. Glad it was them not us.
We got a letter from our doctors office, the doctor neither one of us likes, and he no longer works for that office so we have to choose a new primary doctor. We were going to any way. So will try to take care of that next week and make appointments for April. I hate having to change doctors and start from scratch again.
Went for a ride around noon. Surprisingly there wasn't much vehicle traffic. Lots of people out walking around though. Lots of big busses loading people up to leave.
