Finally start to cool down.

Well cooling down is relative...only going to be in high 90's rest of week. And getting down to 70's at night. For the first time in months!

Everyone is sick of the heat. Las Vegas has seen significant heat this summer. Here are some details: Total Days — Las Vegas recorded 79 days over 100°F from June 1 to August 27, 2026.

Except for groceries and doctors we've pretty much stayed home.

Took three workers about three hours to clean up the mess.

This is all that is left. Gardener thinks it will survive. We'll see. 

Doesn't take much to make me happy. Our son sent his cleaning ladies over the other day. When they left I was checking things out. A pretty bow on the paper towels. Makes me smile. 

A fan on the toilet paper. Another smile. 

All the kleenex boxes had the tissues arranged on top as flowers. And towels were folded special. AND of course house was very clean. 

Looked like we were about to get another storm, but it fizzled out before reaching us. 

Bill has really been in a cooking mood lately. Making more milensea.

Another Sphere picture. I'm surprised there aren't more wrecks with drivers watching it. 

The new hotel going up on The Strip. Hard Rock hotel, 400+ rooms in the guitar. All the windows in the original Mirage hotel will be blue glass too. 

Here is a rendering of another new hotel going up in Vegas, down by the Luxor. Weird city we live in. 

Bill saw the cardiologist the other day. Going to him is like going through a revolving door. 10 minutes  per patient. He talks so fast it's hard to figure out what he meant. Said the heart monitor showed "a little Afib" Other than that heart seems to be doing fine. When we got home got to wondering about "a little Afib" so asked AI. AI suggested I upload the doctor's notes and AI (want to call it He) would break it down so we could understand. First I had to set up Bill's patient portal...then copy and past the doctor's notes and monitor's reading. Surprised myself and managed to do that. AI gave us info we could understand. The Afib is only 5% of the time.and not bad. And a whole lot of other information that made us feel at least informed. Doctor agreed no Eliquis because of the macular degeneration in Bill's eye.  

A couple of interesting visitors. 

There are three of these birds that come to raid the hummingbird feeders. They can get some through the holes, but have seen them tipping the feeder to get the nectar to pour out. AI says they are some kind of finch. Sure going through a lot of nectar. 

We've gone out to lunch a few times with our son and one day with our oldest granddaughter and her husband and daughter. They were in town for a couple of days. That was fun. She is the daughter of our oldest son who passed a few years ago. Then Bill and I went out to lunch to an Argentine restaurant on our side of town. And that is about it.

 And life keeps moving on. Bill continues to set up his shop in the garage. But it is still too hot for him to spend any time during the day out there. The heat continues, been having 111 to 115 days. Supposed to start cooling down tomorrow and we might even have a couple of days under 100 - 99 and 98 - we'll take them. We are in Monsoon season now so been having some nice sunrises and sunset, but this is the only picture I've taken. A sunset. 

We have done some more cooking. Made another three dozen empanadas. Yes we already ate the ones we made before. I also made a chocolate tres leches cake from scratch. The name comes for the three milks that are used. The cake itself uses flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, five eggs separated, milk and vanilla. The whites are beaten stiff then folded into the cake batter.  After the cake is baked and cools down you mix one can each of condensed milk and evaporated milk with 1/4 cup heavy cream. Then poke lots of holes in cake and pour the milk mixture over it. Then the cake has to set at least 8 hours or overnight in the refrigerator to absorb the milk. Then it is frosted with the heavy cream whipped, sugar and cocoa powder. Turned out delicious. I ate half of it. Bill ate a little bit and it made him very, very sick. We both forgot he cannot tolerate chocolate. Took him a whole day to get feeling good again. So ended up throwing out about a third of the cake. I'd had enough sooo...

Came across this picture of our youngest, Gil, in Mexico City getting his boots shined. He was 7 then.  

Wow yesterday it actually rained here. We had blue skies then all of a sudden I heard the sound of BIG rain drops on the patio roof. How nice. .

Had gone back inside when I heard LOUD rain drops on the roof. Oh my, very hard sideways blowing  rain. And heavy strong winds. Watch the tree. I walked away from the window to tell Bill to come see the rain. 

When I got back to the window the biggest part of the tree was down. Half of it is hanging over the wall into the Wetlands. The temperature dropped for 110 to 70, but didn't stay down for long. 

It split right in half. only  part of it is still standing. It was such a pretty tree. Hopefully the part left will live. 

Talked to gardener today. He will come Saturday to clean it up. $$$
