La Martina

From Puerta de Canoas we continued on to La Martina. Lots to do and see in a very short drive. And the weather was perfect. 

First we took a very sort detour to check out the cemetery on the road to Los Limones. At first glance it looks like a small housing development. They are grouped by family members. 

This must be a rather well to do family.

Then on to La Martina for lunch. Every time we go there it gets more colorful with all the plants blooming. 

The African tulip tree (spathodea campanulata) [also known as the fountain tree, pichkari or nandi flame] in bloom. It is spectacular. 

These bougainvillea are the size of a car.

From here we went to the distillery. 

Puerta de Canoas

Yesterday we had a busy day. We took our neighbors here in the RV park on a tour. They are our Captured Tourists for now. We went to Puerta de Canoas, a brief stop at a cemetery, on to La Martina for lunch then to the Tequila Distillery. It is just a short drive to Puerta de Canoas. 

There are as of the 2020 census there are 347 people living in Puerta de Canoas. Entering the town. I don't know if the restaurant is still open or not. 

Following the road to the ranch of the horse trainer. 

Just pretty flowers. They need a good rain to wash all the road dust of of them. 

Bill talking to the trainer asking if we could come in and visit with the horses. He trains the horses to dance for other people. He has about six horses there this time. And he has expanded his stable area quite a bit. There used to be a home next to him, now it is stalls for horses. Giving this guy a bath.

There were chickens running all over the place. This is one colorful guy. And he knew it. Strutting around and crowing. 

He gave us a couple of demonstrations of the dancing. This is the horse he was  bathing. The horse is three years old and he has only been in training for a few months. 

Then he brought this one out. He was beautiful.

And this is where we were going, The house of the ladies who make the wonderful candy. 

Lots and lots of candy waiting to be packaged up. It is quite soft when formed so it needs to harden up a little bit on the outside to hold its shape.

The candy is made of milk and sugar cooked to a semi hard consistency. 

Did we buy any, of course we did. A box of the ones rolled in the nuts. I forgot how much I liked them. Need to get another box!

 We have a couple of hummingbird feeders up. Fun to watch them. I don't think I've seen a yellow hummingbird before. Even his tail is yellow. (It looks orange here but is really yellow.)

See the two arrows, the red arrow is a ladder the whit are two workmen. They to up the ladder then walk across the roofs to where they are working. These are individual homes, built very close together. 

Having lunch. 

Pablo our mechanic here came over the other day and changed the oil and filters in the Jeep and RV. Thank you Pablo for all your work over the years. 

Oops. were going to have breakfast at La Antigua but some one had already taken Bill's parking spot.  Change of plans. See the street cleaner at the end of the block.

Colorful homes. 

This is an apartment building, I think. The upper part looks great. The lower part really needs repainting. Kind of looks like they are doing some patch work. 

Building Santa's house and getting to decorate the government building. 

There were two cruise ships in town again and for some reason the vehicular traffic was terrible. All the taxis and pulmonias and tour buses I guess. 

We ended up eating at Gaia again. This couple walked by while we were sitting down. Check out her dress. That is all embroidery work. Beautiful.

Saw lots of guys with bread on trays on their heads. 

Traffic was at a dead stop on this street while the propane truck filled one of the restaurants tanks.

Now that is my kind of paint job - or maybe wrap. 

He comes out to the middle of the street and plays while the light is red. A few cars gave him some money. 

Yesterday we stayed home all day. Today we were out and about to several places.
