Thursday Breakfast and trip to Centrol

Long blog, get a coffee or snack and enjoy. Back to a couple of days before. Corazone lookout  Said I would look this up. Here is who he is.

It will include the total change of lights to give the area a better appearance, as well as musicalization of the statue of José Alfredo Jiménez; there you will be able to listen to the most popular songs of the composer.

A look out at the harbor entrance. Lots of boats out there.

A closer look up the cliff at the observatory, we plan on going there next week, for sure.
Not a good picture, but there is a lot to do and see up there. It was built in 1873 and restored and reopened a couple of years ago.
Still trying to get a good shot of this. It looks different from every angle. One of the really interesting ones. The moon and the sun.
At one time , not so long ago, Valentino's under the blue arrow was the most prominent landmark on the Mazatlan skyline, now you have to look hard to find it. Progress I guess.
For any old timer here in Mazatlan. This used to be Mar Rosa RV park right down town. No idea what it is now but it opened last night. As we went by cars and people were going inside. Will have to check it out.
On to Thursday - we went to La Antigua in Cerritos for breakfast. Of course, one of the staff had to ask Bill where his Jeep with the big eagle was.
We both had our favorite crepe again. So good!!!!!
We sat outside on the back patio. Beautiful day and weather.
Then we caught a pulmonia to do some shopping at WalMart. Yes I remembered to carry some grocery bags with me. Walmart has some of the best chocolate croissants.
Took taxi home to put stuff away. Then were off again to Centro. Bill in his new glasses and his hat.
This looks weird, but is because of a photo I took the other day of a man standing in front of it. I wondered what was inside the red mesh heart shaped thing. Well they are bottle caps collected for a cause.
We went across the street and Bill ordered another pair of glasses - same prescription but sun glasses, using one of his old frames. Total bill less than $70 for exam, new glasses and new lenses.
Walking to the Central market. The shoe repair stands around the Plaza in Centro.
Lots and lots of busses coming up this street.
Another classic building across the street from the Central Market.
Once in the market we stopped and talked to a couple of people we know who have stalls in there. They wondered why we hadn't been by yet. Then on into the market just wandering around. One of the fruit vegetable stands. So colorful. And of course the piggy head. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Lots of food stalls in there too. We were in there late in the afternoon so not as much going on as in the morning.
A few touristy things for sale. Makes you wonder where and what you would do with some of them.
Lots of clothing stands.
We had been kind of wasting time going to the market as Bill couldn't pick up his watches until after 3:30. So time to go there. A bush growing out the side of a building.
Watch repairman's sign. He reopens at 3:30
His shop is very small about 10 x 10 but he does excellent work. Bill has been taking his watches there for years. Again the Jeep was mentioned. The watchmaker said he hadn't seen it driving by.
Looking at a very old fancy watch of mine that I haven't used in years. It can't be fixed. All the mechanism has dried out and is frozen.
Then on to the Plazuela Machado as we were both hungry and didn't want to go home yet. I'm walking along and realize that Bill isn't with me. Where'd he go. Back there watching something. So back I went.
He is watching a chess game. I can tell he wants to tell one of the guys what to do next, but he doesn't.
And then I saw something I really do not need, but talked myself into it. A red dress covered with embroidery. HAND EMBROIDERY. Something you don't see much any more. Most things are now machine embroidered. So stopped to look t it and ended up buying it US$23.00 The material isn't a very good quality but the work is amazing.
A closer look at some of it.
How to tell it is hand embroidered. You can see every stitch.
So much work in it. Might hang it on a wall at home so I can enjoy it every day. It needs a good pressing.
By then we were ready to sit down and eat. It was after lunch and before dinner so we practically had Gaia to ourselves. Watching all the vendors come in with their tables and tub full of things to sell. And the waiters setting up the tables and chairs on the street. Thursday nights there is music every where in the Plaza.
Bill's meal, he had steak.
I had salmon. Both meals were wonderful. I was still full the next morning.
Plus we had enjoyable music to listen too while eating.
Took a pulmonia home. When we got there the Austin BBQ was rocking. Dancing on the sidewalk and every empty space in the restaurant.
It was a busy day, so ready to sit and read and go to sleep early. Had plans for Friday too. Busy, busy.
