In Memorandum - Don Raul Bernal

This is from a post I did on November 21 this year.
"We have been going to one clothing store in the market for years. I get a lot of my blouses there. The gentleman with Bill is the owner. Don't remember how it got started but Bill always buys him a pastry before we go to see him. Last winter we didn't see much of him as he was quite ill. Bill still bought the pastry and sent it home with his daughter. It was good to see him this year. Lots of hugging."

When I posted that picture I didn't mention that his illness was cancer and that it would eventually take him away. Since then we hadn't been back to the market.
Bill was reading the Mazatlan newspaper the other day and he told me about a bus hitting and killing a man. Then the driver grabbed his keys and ran, never to be found.
The next day while reading the paper he discovered it was our friend, Raul Bernal, this man from the market who had been hit.
In the next few days we learned many things about him we didn't know. He was loved and will be missed. So glad we got to see him at least once this year. Here is an article from the paper about him. Again the translation is a little weird.

"Father Rafael Martínez officiated in San Carlos Borromeo body mass.       Julieta Lomeli Mazatlan, Sinaloa-tribute received Don Raul Bernal pulled, in market Pino Suarez, enclosure that was your second home during his lifetime, to be hard working and have your business the new glory in it. Family, friends, tenants, all with evident pain for the loss of a man who was kind, gentlemanly and very hardworking during its existence. His body arrived in the market where already expected it their loved ones, who gave him warm applause for his departure. Moments later, took his body to direct you to the parish of San Carlos Borromeo, where he accompanied him to receive the blessing of God, on the second Sunday of advent, a special day mentioned the priest Rafael Martinez Gallardo, who explained that who he dies in time of lent or advent, it has a special privilege. "Receives the tender and loving embrace of our father".
With his wife and daughter in better time. Last year when he was home ill, Bill continued the tradition of bringing a sweet to the store. Either his wife or daughter would take it home to him.
More from the newspaper

Part of the funeral procession
He will be missed. Our trips to the market will not be the same.

Thank you. Going to the market will not be the same. Always a fun time to visit with him and his daughter.
